Khurram was arrested by police on September 15 late night from his home in Sonwar here. He was lodged in Kothibagh police station wherefrom he was shifted to Kupwara jail on ten days police remand.
However, Principal Sessions Judge Srinagar, Rashid Ali Dar, quashed the detention order of Khurram issued by Executive Magistrate, Mohammad Amin Najar. Najar remained silent when Judge asked him to respond to the application of Khurram’s lawyers. Thus the detention order was quashed and Kupwara jail authorities released the rights defender only to be re-arrested by police outside the jail premises.
Chairperson of Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD) and Programme coordinator of J-K Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), Khurram Parvez was scheduled to attend 33rd session of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva but he was not allowed to leave India from New Delhi International Airport on Sep 14-15 intervening night. His flight to Switzerland was scheduled to take off around 1:30 AM but immigration officers citing orders from Investigation Bureau (IB) held Khurram back. He returned home in the morning wherefrom he was arrested later at the night.
Police shifted to Khurram to Police Station Kothibagh around 3 AM this morning wherefrom he was taken to Police Control Room Srinagar for medical check-up.
“We were informed by the cops that Khurram has been booked under PSA and will be shifted and detained in Kotbalwal jail,” an office bearer of CCS said.
